These designs were made for a contest sent to School for Fashion Design in Boston for a free ride into their summer classes. We were asked to make a sportswear, a work, evening, and wedding look. (I don’t show the sportswear look here because I wasn’t happy with the end result.) I did not end up winning, but I did attend their class afterward. Rendered with watercolor and watercolor pencils.
Evening Dresses:
I made two different designs for the evening dress because I wasn’t sure which one I wanted to go with. I ended up using the red dress because it was more unique, but I was very happy with both renderings. The top blue dress is an iridescent material with an open back that closes with elegant vintage feeling buttons. The red dress has a sheer gauzy material on the bottom layer to create a contrast with the bright red in the top layer of the dress. This was somewhat inspired by tango dresses. It is a modern look for a unique personality that wants to make a statement.
Work:
The career design is for a young woman who is in a high end job who wants to look sharp and express herself in the office. Her mulberry jacket is eye-catching and elegant with the flashes of royal blue silk underneath when she walks, while the light blue dress is fresh and sweet. Her purple scarf gives some flare to the outfit. It looks new and fabulous while keeping to the dress code. I am inspired by some vintage looks, so I decided to add the gold buttons and the blue silk side cinchers.
Wedding Dress:
This elegant wedding dress is a traditional wedding dress shape. The billows of fabric hang on sapphire jewels, and the flowery lace subtly exposes the soft skin of her waist and collar bone. The embroidery on the dress is detailed in white thread. A large sapphire jewel hangs from the lace collar down between her shoulder blades on a silver chain. The blue laces in the back cinch her up snuggly in the dress, allowing a better fit.
